When is the best season for trekking?
Sapa has very favourable climate in Vietnam, it is often very cool all year round, But the winter time is too cold to travel around. The best months to visit Sapa is from September to November. It is dry and cool to trek in the mountain trails, the temperature is from 20 - 28 oC during the day, and you will have very stunning lanscape of rice field in October if you are lucky.
WHAT TO BRING?
- need a local escorted guide, but he is not a porter for your luggage
- pack light: towels and bedding were not necessary, The accommodations arranged by small family-run guesthouse, mattresses lined side by side and a mosquito net over top
- wear sturdy shoes: There were times when you are scrambling up the mountain on all fours, hopping across ditches, and having our bodies whipped by branches as we cut across a bamboo forest. It was demanding and you’ll want good footwear.
- A lightweight rain coat or jacket will be great, the weather in Sapa always changes, even you can get wet in dry season.
- Pack snacks: There will be stops for lunch and dinner, but you have no control over those times. Well, actually, you do – the quicker you walk, the sooner you get to the next village with a restaurant, Bring some snacks and save yourself the suffering.
- Bring double the water: You will get thirsty and you’ll be guzzling more water than a camel
- Get used to the touts: If you’re spending a few days in Sapa, you’ll notice that for the women of the Hmong tribe touting is serious business. Despite making it clear that we had no intention of purchasing any more souvenirs, we had women walk alongside us for hours.
- Bring your camera: The scenery in Sapa and the surrounding region is stunning so you’ll want to make sure you bring your camera and that the battery is fully charged
- Mosquito sprayer: sometimes you are biten by the mosquitos, but don't think it causes the infection of maleria in the villages
- Water proof bag: When you have kyaking in Halong Bay , water proof bag is nessesary , you can keep your valuables and even camera
- Water proof camera: it is a great idea to bring the water proof camera for Halong Bay when you do kyaking. you will get some amazing pictures of sunset while kayaking ..
Today, you arrive in Hanoi, the guide and driver will pick you up. The airport is just 30Km from the city center. You check in and have free time in Hanoi
Today, you will have a full day of Hanoi city tour by car. The best highlights include: Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum for Uncle Ho's mummified body and his house where he lived from 1954 until his death ( The Mausoleum is closed on Monday & Friday, and just opened in the morning from 7.30 AM to 11.00 AM). Go to visit One Pillar Pagoda next door to learn Vietnam Buddhism. and drive to visit the Temple of Literature which was the first university of Vietnam built in the 11th Century.
After your lunch for Vietnamese cusine, you will keep going to visit the Westlake of Hanoi, and Hoan Kiem Lake as considered as the heart of Hanoi, and Hoa Lo Prision which was built by the French Colonists for Vietnamese political prisoners in 1930 - 1945, and later was used for American Pilots in Vietnam War in 1965 - 1972.
In the afternoon, you will have an hour xichlo ride in the Old Quarter to the sight-seeings. and enjoy a Water Puppet Show (45minutes). The rest of your time, you explore the city of Hanoi.
8.00 AM, our guide and driver will pick you up at hotel for day tour to Ninh Binh Province , drive for 110Km (2,5 hours) to a famous tourist attraction, Trang An complex
The best highlights for this trip is to take a sampan in Trang An, Trang An is a World's Natural Heritage, that you will go by the little boats through the grottoes in a river...and after that you will visit 2 Temples at Hoa Lu Ancient Citadel for Kings of Dinh Dynasty and Le Dynasty.
Tam Coc and Trang An are at the distance of 10Km from eachother. Cycling from Trang An to Tam Coc is an amazing trip and small adventure. On the way, you will enjoy stunning scenery of limestone mountains which is called " Dry Halong Bay", you will cycle among the farmer's villages, and can stop to visit some farmer's houses..
Have lunch at a local restaurant and get back to Hanoi : Tour will be finished in Hanoi at 18.00 PM:
Take a day use room for shower and have dinner by yourself. Tonight, you are boarding an overnight train to Lao Cai City, the train leaves at 21.40 PM and arrive in Lao Cai at 5.30 AM.
Your train will arrive in Lao Cai Border City at 5.30 AM as the final train station terminal.
Check out the train and drive for 37Km uphill to Sapa Town, Sapa is located at the altitude of 1,650m above the sea level. You get to a hotel in Sapa where you will stay here for the next night, have a breakfast at hotel and repack your luggage for Home Stay in the village. You can leave your big suitcase at the hotel.
Your trekking route distance is about 15 - 20Km: Go through Y Linh Ho Village, Lao Chai Village, Ta Van Village
- At 9.00 Am, you will start your 10km trek from your hotel to Y Linh Ho Village, follow the trails in Muong Hoa Valley, and take photos of stunning view. You will go through some hilltribe villages in the valley, and your stop is at a restaurant in Lao Chai Village where you will have your lunch at 13.00 PM
- At 16.00 PM, you will arrive in Ta Van Viilage for your home stay. Have an experience to stay with the local people, you will see how they live here.
Note: a very simly overnight, No air-condition room, no heating, the home stay will be arranged with the mastress, mosquito net. the toilet is outdoor, but you can have hot water for shower
At 8.00 AM, you will have a local breakfast, cooked by the family.
At 9.00 AM, have an other trek to Giang Ta Chai Village, where you will have more challenge among the muddy trails in the bamboo forest. It could be very wet after a shower, so you need a good skills of trekking.
At 11.00 AM, you will arrive in a small waterfalls at the end of the trip. And move to the bus waiting for you at the proper stop.
At 12.00 AM, you will arrive in a local restaurant in Sapa and enjoy your meal, check in the hotel and have an afternoon in Sapa by yourself.
In the morning, you will have a visit to an amazing top of Tram Ton, which is 1900 m above the sea level, a great point to take photos of mountainous landscape. Tram Ton Pass is a landmark between Lao Cai Province and Lai Chau Province, just 20Km from Sapa. And on the way back to Sapa, you make a stop at the waterfalls.
Drive back to Cable Car Station for beautiful view of Muong Hoa Valley, the cable car is just openned in 2015 and considered as a longest non-stop cable car in Asia. You only take 20 minutes to the peak of Fansipan Mountain, which is the roof of Indochina at the altitude of 3,143m.
After lunch, check out the hotel and drive to Lao Cai for the night train back to Hanoi. You will have chance to stop at Vietnam - China Border Gate for pictures ( Can not cross the border), the Border Gate is 3Km from the train station. You will wait for the night train at a local restaurant.
An overnight train will be booked at 20.35 PM.
At 4.30 Am, you will arrive in Hanoi, and a day use and breakfast will be booked for this early morning.
At 8.00 Am, you will go to Halong Bay, drive in the delta for a distance of 170Km to Halong Bay, you can have a stop over for restroom on the way.
At 12.30 Am, you will arrive in Halong Bay City, time for boarding a cruise and overnight
13.00 - 14.30 | Enjoy Lunch while cruising to magnificent Bai Tu Long Bay, admire the fascinating formations on the way. |
15.30 - 16.30 | Transfer from boat to rowing boat to visit Vung Vieng Fishing Village. Rowers are local people wearing traditional costume. It’s the opportunity to see the fisher’s daily life with the primary features in the charming nature. |
16.45 - 17.30 | Enjoy relaxing on a white sandy beach at Ban Chan Beach. |
17.30 | Return to boat - Continue cruising through the bay. |
18.30 | Anchor for overnight at Cong Do area. |
18.30 - 19.00 | Cooking Demonstration in restaurant. |
19.30 - 21.00 | Savor a delicious Set Dinner in dinning room. |
