Today we explore the area where 1RAR were on their first tour. We start with a visit the Dong Nai Museum to look at the history of the region including the old Phuoc Tuy and see the original Long Tan Cross. We also visit the Nui Gang Toi area where Richard Parker and Peter Gilson were lost. O/night Bien Hoa
Today we make our pilgrimage to the FSB Coral site, and the FSB Balmoral area. We explore the infamous War Zone D and the AO of the Big Red 1. Along the way we see some stunning scenery and the unaffected countryside of the real Viet Nam. We stay overnight in a 4 star hotel in Binh Long, once known as An Loc - the site of a famous 1972 that led to the area coming under NLF control from 1973.
We head to the border town of Loc Ninh at the end of the Ho Chi Minh Trail. We visit the Museum and the house where four-party talks negotiated the implementation of the Paris Peace Accords. We also visit the site where COSVN, the NLF Headquarters, ran the war from 1973-75, including the Ho Chi Minh Campaign to take Sai Gon. Back in Binh Long we see some local historical sites. Drive to HCM City for lunch in HCM City and a free afternoon. O/night HCM City.
Today we take you to the Mekong Delta to the start of the war visiting Ap Bac famous as an NLF victory that shook American confidence in the southern regime and eventually led to the deployment of US ground troops. The scenery among the rice fields of the Delta is stunning. We’ll also cruise the Mekong and enjoy the local food. O/night in HCM City.
Today we explore the stunning mangrove forest called the Rung Sat which is sometimes translated as the Killing Jungle. We visit the renown Monkey Island, explore the forest by boat, see the remains of human occupation dating back two thousand years and look across to Vung Tau from a cute seaside village. The Rung Sat was the home of the NLF’s legendary 10th Sapper Regiment. O/night HCM City
We travel down to Ba Ria Province on the new high-speed highway. Time in the province will be at your direction with a flexible itinerary based on the group’s needs.There will be an afternoon gathering at the Long Tan Cross on 18 August. On Monday we will return to HCM City via Xuan Loc and Trang Bom heading straight to the airport for the night flights to Return to Australia.
